Youth First

The 2026 sailing season is underway with several of our youth members participating in the Starcross Steamer and youth squad training over at WPNSA.

Despite spirited racing and impressive efforts in the Starcross Steamer, especially from younger sailors Toby Keates and Leo Shuttleworth, the escalating conditions forced officials to abandon the race on the third lap. Safety was prioritised, and safety crews were allowed to bring the competitors ashore.

Over the weekend, Rio McNab was training with the RYA Talent Academy in his ILCA 4, spending five plus hours on the water practising all his drills, focussing on fitness for racing and knowledge of racing rules. Rio is preparing to compete in the ILCA Europeans and the UK Open Nationals along with a number of his fellow Weymouth Sailing Club members in 2026. 

Dont forget during the winter months, our youth members meet at the club every other Friday evening at 1800 for a shore training session and some friendly games of pool and table tennis. With the bar open why not join in with these family friendly sessions, open to all members next session is this Friday (16 January).
