SB20s Invitation Race August 2026

Four SB20's with a total of 15 members aboard enjoyed a warm, light wind, evening race on Monday 3rd August. The event brought together complete novices, new members, youth sailors and those from other classes wanting to try the boat together with some of the clubs more experienced members. I think this demonstrates the flexibility of these boats.
Steve Dadd RO set an excellent windward leeward course which is best suited to this class. The race was won by Leo Shuttleworth demonstrating just how effective our youth development programme has become. The clubs youngest members were also in evidence sailing their Terra dinghies many of whom will undoubtedly graduate to our senior fleet securing the clubs competitive racing future.
The wind died on the finish line necessitating a paddle home. However the resourceful crew on club boat HAL hailed a rowing club gig requesting a tow home which was generously accepted! Sailors retired to a packed clubhouse for a most welcome drink before being entertained by the council firework display. A fitting end to a perfect summer's evening.
