WSC Night Race

Eight yachts, seven IRC class 3 & 4 plus an SB 20, enjoyed a spectacular race on the evening of Friday 25th September.  As usual the start line was PQ with a 19:00 start time.  

As the fleet drove over the line in a strong SW breeze an amazing sunset developed before slowly disappearing to be replaced by some spectacular Moonshine!   

 

The first leg of some 9.6 NM to Atomic Buoy (aka Arish Mel) was a feisty reach with several yachts broaching. The return leg looked like being a fetch but the wind headed as we approached Weymouth corner, so deciding where best to tack became crucial.  

As the finish line approached the moon had disappeared behind clouds so finding The PQ finish line was interesting!

Full results on the website but it is worth noting that after three hours the fleet was still bunched. Anarchy won by just 37 seconds from Elsa, closely followed by Tilted with 1 min 40 seconds and 47 seconds later the SB20, Loco.  The racing was followed by a substantial pontoon party on Tilted; as were we all afterwards.
