Requirements for Lift in or Out

Pre Lift Out

Your cradle should be of a type that can be brought to site and readily assembled. All cradles are required to be of steel and of suitable dimensions for your vessel. Please ensure that all moving parts including screw threads have been lubricated and sufficient tools are available.

Roller furling genoas should be removed to prevent them accidentally unfurling in the yard. Main Sails should be removed before lifting out, not whilst the boat is on the cradle. Sprayhoods are to be lowered or removed. The backstay should be removed if the mast is to remain stepped. A temporary backstay to one quarter may be needed on some vessels. If you are unsure where the lifting strops are to be positioned, ensure that you make a note or take a photo this time for quick reference next time. Any log impellers in the area of the lifting strops should be withdrawn and a blank inserted.

Lift In/Out Day

Please ensure that you are present at the published muster time with sufficient crew to help you lift your boat. Whilst the yard secretary will have organised crane operators, banksmen and JBC/Wise drivers, you and your crew should assist in the lifting, stropping and positioning your boat into or out of its cradle. When lifting out, your boat should be ready at the published time and alongside the crane once the preceding boat has been lifted ashore. When lifting in, your boat should be ready at the published time with mooring lines and fenders fitted but not deployed.

Once the boat is secure in its cradle or its mooring, you should return to the Yard to assist other boat owners with their lifts.

Once the lift programme is complete for the day, you can then return to attend to your own boat. You are also required to assist at another lift in/out day during the current programme.

Boats in the Yard

Your tender should be removed from its storage area and taken home or stowed under your boat. Ladders or steps used to access your boat must be secured by a padlock to the cradle when not in use. All gas bottles, canisters and petrol cans are to be removed from your boat and taken home as soon as possible. Dehumidifiers may be used but are only to be switched on when you are present at the Sailing Club. Once the refit is complete the area should be left clear, with paint tins, brushes and rollers taken home for disposal. The sailing club does not hold the necessary licence to accept items for disposal that are contaminated with any paint residue. Both Weymouth and Portland Recycling Centers accept paint tins. If you have paid to stow your cradle in the Yard for the summer please contact the Yard Secretary to discuss where it can be stowed.
