What A Result!

The what is now, Weymouth Sailing Club annual beer and cider festival, exceeded all expectations, with happy punters, happy sponsors, a happy treasurer and delirious England and Welsh Rugby supporters. The organising committee set itself the targets of raising money through sponsorship of barrels for Chesil Sailability, the sum of £500 raised. We wanted a profitable event, it was in profit by early afternoon on the Saturday, some barrels were drunk dry, the rest had very little left. We sold all of the food.We wanted to raise the profile of the event and therefore that of the club. Through word of mouth, social media, local press and radio and posters this was mostly achieved. We wanted people to enjoy themselves, well most did, unless they were Scottish or Irish. All of the above could not have been achieved without the hard work of the organising committee and club volunteers, we also had help from CAMRA members as well.Thank You, you know who you are.One funny story from the Saturday evening, one guest ( a BBC radio presenter) was awaiting the very late arrival of his friends, they eventually rang him advising him not to bother to go to the beer festival because of the very limited selection of ales and the rather 'offish' attitude of the other drinkers. It transpired that they had gatecrashed a private party at another local sailing club. They eventually found their way to Nothe ParadeSo we still have work to do getting the word out that Weymouth Sailing Club is the club for sailing and socialising!Last updated 15:13 on 28 July 2025
