The Squibs held their annual race to Ringstead and beach BBQ last Sunday in Mediterranean weather.Squibs, Aldebaran, Inquisition,Iceni Rebel and Comet were started at X mark by acting committee boat for the day, Saskia VII.They sailed a short beat to P followed by a long downwind leg to the finish at Ringstead. The images taken from Saskia VII show the story of a very close finish. As the Squibs approached the finishing line Aldebaran appeared to have a small lead from Inquisition. However Inquisition made a final charge and managed to pass Aldebaran just before the finishing pin. However both boats boats were narrowly beaten by Iceni Rebel who crossed the line at the committee boat end in clear air.Cruisers,Banco and Springbok joined Saskia and the Squib feet at the Ringstead anchorage. With the help of Steve Dadd and the Rib team everyone made it safely ashore to enjoy a BBQ in sizzling conditions. The race back was equally competitive with Inquisition taking the win from Aldebaran by making the most of the wind bend along the coast. The fleet retired to the clubroom for a well earned drink and short prize-giving. Patrick Jones and Rob Hawes ,with a first and second place, were the worthy winners and received the magnificent trophy originally donated by Ernie Lee for this specific event.Last updated 15:13 on 28 July 2025
