An update on Milo the clubs old 420

For several years, Milo, the clubs 420, had seen little use. Rather than leave her sitting in the yard, the decision was taken to move her on, with the funds raised reinvested directly into maintaining and improving the clubs existing dinghy fleet.

And Milo? Shes certainly keeping busy.

Her new owner recently took on the Isle of Sheppey Race, spending more than eight hours afloat in light winds, challenging tides, rain and what they described as four seasons in one day.

Its like the Wacky Races — not too serious and great fun!

At one point they were fifth on handicap, before virtually no wind, a strong tide and a leaking bailer brought them to a standstill just six miles from the finish.

After more than an hour tacking almost in the same spot, they eventually accepted a tow back to the start.

Despite the conditions — and losing the spinnaker halyard just five minutes before the race — Milo held up remarkably well.

The crews verdict?

We go again next year.

AN ASSET PUT TO WORK

While Milo is now racing around the Isle of Sheppey, her contribution continues at Weymouth Sailing Club helping maintain our club fleet and freeing space up in the yard.
