It's all go at WSC!

Last weekend saw the end of Summer regatta for the IRC class and SB20s combined with K6 Nationals, the iQFOIL Worlds combined with the possible arrival of the Waverley paddle steamer. Plus, we cannot forget the tender race on Friday evening. What could possibly go wrong!?

A HUGE thanks to all volunteers that made the regatta possible. Too many names to mention across the administration before and during the event, the tag out and slipway team, the safety boats and marking laying, the ensemble on Viking under the master guidance of Paul Browning as Race Officer. House also had a key part serving a large volume of beverage over the period with Leon our caterer laying on a BBQ. A truly multi-department event.

Well done to Suspicion for winning IRC4 and the overall Sharp Exit silverware, closely followed by the Mighty Monnshadow II helmed by our own Commodore Mike Street and then closely followed by the Wookies (aka Helen and Matt- with tropical wear!). Brilliant competitive racing. It just shows you that a one design J24 helmed by someone who sails like it's been stolen (Simon Hall) with top crew can still perform. Of course, Simon was well trained by a former European Champion, Bob Turner. I'm told you should mark every line so you can get that repeat speed, and watch those shifts. 

Qu au Rhum 2 took IRC 3 with the combination of Ricky Bruton, helm from Tom Rees and a cast of other talent. The last Grand Surprise in the club and an end of an era. What next? Applejack and Martin Dickson took IRC5 and then we have SB20 LoCo taking the top spot with Dan Bailey and Tye Shuttleworth et al tearing downwind with water propelling from the bow. All smiles.

The K6 Nationals were also an integral part of the weekend with close racing again in a mix of conditions across the 3 days. A gentle, shifty introduction on Friday, more breeze and a bit of wave action on Saturday and then Sunday delivering a consistent 15 knots+. The class captain John Tabor followed up with a great message, copied below.

A huge thank you from the K6 Class for a wonderful three days enjoying Weymouth SC's hospitality.

The Bay is fabulous, the water is great and your Club is so very welcoming, friendly and supportive of visiting sailors on and off the water. The race management was excellent. Thank you to you all for making our National Championships so enjoyable and successful.

I know from speaking with my fellow competitors that we are all keen to return, hopefully in not too many years!

That's the end of the End of Summer regatta 2026. Although turnout was lower than expected for those that ventured much reward and enjoyment was had. We now move onto the Autumn and Winter series.
