Ķ..but the decision was taken in reverse. We decided that a Squib would be a good boat for Chris (my partner) and I to sail. We then looked at the three clubs on the South Coast (Portsmouth, Dartmouth and Weymouth) where we felt we would be happy to sail. On a sunny week end we visited WSC and met two very friendly Squib sailors (we hadnÄôt arranged the visit nor did we immediately reveal that we were looking to build a new Squib)ĶĶ.the rest is history. By chance we also viewed a property opposite the club. Filch 909 (named after the squib in Harry Potter) started from a green bag at Rondar Boats. It progressed alongside Mike Budds (908) but left the yard three weeks earlier. There have been a few changes to the internal moulding but is basically the same as Simon Vines Rondar. Rigging the boat is a mix of tuning manuals from Hyde and Batt, but principally replicating Mike Budds instructions via the adjusted Rondar boat as borrowed from Paul Young. Early sailing with Chris was a bit of a disaster as the front of the boat was not working. With help from Jim Mitchell, the problems were pointed out and I went home that week end extremely apologetic to my patient crew. After having created a new pole system and removing the spinnaker rachet blocks we had another try last week end. We can now get round the course, but the spinnaker hoist, gybe and corners are still very slow. But we were smiling after the sail back from the Ringstead Barbecue, despite not knowing where the finish was! Still lots to fix and needing plenty of practiceĶ..but what a smashing club and friendly members. merc
