At the 1923 AGM on the 21st April it was agreed to enter into negotiations with Mr Bussell to rent two upstairs rooms in the former Coastguard quarters. An agreement was reached to lease the rooms, staircase and outhouse and the tenancy was signed on the 17th May at the cost of ¬£10 per annum. The Committee held their first meeting in the bare rooms on May 23rd (possibly a short event as there were no chairs!) The laying on of water, provision of linoleum, tables, chairs and crockery came to about ¬£45 (no provision for heating or lighting). To pay for this it was agreed to open a subscription list limited to 10/- per head and to charge an entrance fee of 10/- to all new members. The Clubhouse was formally opened to the members at a special general meeting on July 1st 1923. The attached photo shows the Club as it was in 1936 with the ongoing construction of the Äúbig roomÄù , but thatÄôs an another storyĶTim DayCommodoreLast updated 17:21 on 20 August 2024
