New Club Pontoon - Stage 2
Published 12:29 on 24 Feb 2025

It's Thursday 20 February and, predictably, a wet and windy morning welcomed back our volunteer mooring team to start the process of reconnecting and floating the Cubies. The good news is that the bitter easterly has swung south with a consequential increase in temperature and calm waters in the harbour. At high tide, amidst a downpour, the process of moving the old Cubies, now scrubbed clean, from Hooker Dock the Club pontoon for re-floating commenced.

Under Gary Owens leadership the task was to construct three Cubie wide pontoons to the required lengths so that next week they can be floated out and positioned ready for the new piles to be inserted and secured. Additionally the fittings to secure the pontoons to the new piles need to be inserted; a total of five, square, steel frames.

Meanwhile in the inner harbour additional new Cubies were unloaded from the delivery lorry, connected together and pushed down the slipway into the harbour prior to floating them down to the Club.

The old and new Cubies are finally assembled and floated inside the Club House pontoon. In the photo you can see the gaps in the Cubies where the steel frames have been inserted to accept the new piles.

Next week the old piles come out, the Cubies are carefully positioned to align with the harbour plan, the new piles dropped through the steel frames and driven into the harbour bed. As always its our thanks to the club volunteers who are prepared to turn out and get things done.
